At UKFB we look at the bigger picture, we are all aware of the ongoing problems of demountable systems, the manpower required to erect it and dismantle it. The ongoing maintenance, storage and not to mention the possible theft of the barriers.

 

The demountable systems of the 80’s and 90’s have their place, but we need to look to the innovative products coming to the market in the UK for the flood protection of the future.  

The Self Closing Flood Barrier (SCFB) can be used in many ways; it can be stand alone as total protection. Built in to flood wall apertures in order to alleviate the problem of flood gates, which need to be closed manually or power assisted all liable to fail in a flood situation. The SCFB is powered by the rising flood water and needs no power or human intervention and it is virtually maintenance free and is unable to be tampered with in the closed position. Flood protection for the 21st century for single apertures to complete protection for power stations, flood protection in place and ready to deploy when it is needed.

Working along ITT Water and Wastewater, this barrier system can be monitored nationally using their telemetry system. Being solar powered it does not need mains power. Protecting communities from flood water whilst protecting the environment.
