Flood Angel® 110mm Non-Return Valve
What is the backflow valve?
The backflow valve is a non-return valve designed to prevent sewage and waster matter surging back through the sewage system and into properties.
How does it work?
Its "normally open" design enables solids and waste matter to flow freely and unrestricted through the valve. In the event of water surging back through the pipes or in flood conditions, the backflow automatically lifts a gate within the valve which shuts against a neoprene gasket seal and prevents backflow past the valve.
How is the backwater valve different from the backflow valve?
The backwater valve is in a normally closed position, whereas the backflow valve is in a normally open position. The backwater valve is rodent-proof.
Where is the Backflow/Backwater Valve fitted?
The valve is fitted in the main drain or branch closest to the property. The valve is supplied with complete fitting instructions.
Does it need any maintenance?
The backflow valve is virtually maintenance-free and only requires periodic inspection. The units have a built-in main sewer cleanout point, eliminating the need to an adjacent rodding eye.
What size does it come in?
The backflow valve comes in standard 100mm European and 4" US size. This is a standard size for use in the UK. However, a reducing coupler can be used with this valve if pipework is non-standard. This can be purchased from UK Flood Barriers. The Backwater valve comes in two standard sizes: 110mm and 160mm.
Will I need an inspection chamber?
Yes. This can be purchased from UK Flood Barriers. We do two types of inspection chamber: one suitable for soft landscaping, to accept foot traffic; and one suitable for driveways, to accept a weight of 12.5 tonnes. We also sell incremental risers which are sometimes required depending on the depth of the sewage pipe.
Flood Angel® Anti-flood Airbrick
What is so "Innovative" about it?
Its innovative design essentially acts as a standard airbrick, allowing unrestricted airflow underneath the property. Under flood conditions it uses the rising water to automatically shut off as the gate rises to block off the airflow gaps. During strong gusts of wind the Flood Angel™ Airbrick is also automatically activated, temporarily blocking off the airflow gaps until the wind recedes, assisting heat retention within the property.
What material is the Flood Angel® Anti-flood Airbrick made of?
The brick is manufactured from tough recycled polypropylene.
How is it installed?
The Flood Angel® Airbrick is a straight replacement for a standard airbrick. The old airbrick will need to be removed and then the Flood Angel® Airbrick is inserted and fixed in place using Mastic; it is then pointed using a sand and cement mix. UK Flood Barriers can install replacement airbricks for you; please contact us for a quote.
How many will I need?
You will need one Flood Angel® Airbrick to replace each traditional airbrick on the property
What is the difference between a Flood Angel® Anti-flood Airbrick and a Flood Angel® Anti-flood Airbrick Cover?
The Airbrick Replacement is a straightforward replacement for the traditional airbrick. The airbrick cover requires fitting every time there is a flood warning, and removal after the threat has subsided, however they are cheaper.
Waterdoor
How is the Waterdoor barrier different from the Floodshield door barrier?
The Waterdoor is manufactured from aluminium. It comprises aluminium panels which are 200mm high, and side rails which are permanently fixed either side of the doorway. The barrier can be manufactured completely bespoke or supplied in standard sizes up to a height of 1200mm.
How does Waterdoor work?
Waterdoor makes use of two vertical channels (side rails) that are fitted at either side of the door entry. These allow the lightweight, individual aluminium panels to be dropped into position. Each panel has its own rubber seal, that, when compressed by the Waterdoor fixing sequence, forms a completely watertight barrier.
Can I use the Waterdoor barrier to protect my patio door?
Yes. Waterdoor is ideal for protecting wider openings such as patio doors.
What is the maximum height for the Waterdoor Barrier?
The maximum height of Waterdoor is 1200mm. It can be supplied in height choices of 200mm increments, ie: 200mm, 400mm, 600mm, 800mm, 1000mm and 1200mm, depending on your requirements.
Is Waterdoor easy to deploy?
Yes. Once the side rails have been fixed by either one of our installers or by a competent builder, the panels simply need to be slotted into place, ensuring that they are done so in the right order. This should take just a matter of minutes. Again, we recommend that customers familiarise themselves with the components of the barrier in advance of a flood warning. A full set of instructions is supplied with each barrier.
